The Hurricanes ran in four tries to one in their thrilling 26-25 Super Rugby escape over the Blues last night - which only came in the 80th minute at Eden Park.

Trailing by six points and scoreless in the second half til then, the Canes captain Conrad Smith backed up a scintillating Beauden Barrett break for the second of his two tries.

The young first five Barrett was left with a tricky conversion for the one-point win, with the Blues racing off their goal-line to try to charge the kick down, and over 20,000 fans booing the 20-year-old.

Barrett says he had to block out the noise the best he could and coolly slotted it over.

The Blues dominated the game, but only scored a bonus point.

Pat Lam's men have just one win from five and are second bottom - while the Hurricanes are three from five and in the playoff places.
