Gold Coast shock Perth 3-nil

7:21 am on 19 March 2012

Gold Coast United pulled off a major upset in football's A-league yesterday with a 3-nil win yesterday over Perth Glory, United's first win in the competition since Boxing Day.

It was a mature, polished performance by the bottom-placed team before a home crowd of only about 2000, as they play out the season under a caretaker coach, and having been stripped of their A-league licence.

Gold Coast's win leaves Perth third equal on points alongside the Wellington Phoenix, behind the Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar.

The Phoenix host the Mariners on Sunday in the final round of the regular season.
