While the New Zealand Breakers basketball team has clinched the NBL minor premiership after their 91-76 away win over Adelaide on Saturday, the scramble for the other finals places continues with the Queensland teams showing plenty of fight.

The defending champions New Zealand cannot be tipped out of the top spot with two rounds to go and will enjoy home advantage through the finals, but the order behind the Breakers still has to be established.

Third-placed Gold Coast lost a chance to push for second spot, by going down 88-76 at Townsville who are fourth.

It was a vital victory for Townsville, who face the toughest run home of the finals aspirants, travelling to Perth and hosting the Breakers.
