Three farmers who are all involved in highly diversified operations have won this year's Nuffield Farming Scholarships.
Sandra Faulkner from Gisborne, who runs a mixed farming, cropping and orchard operation with her husband, will be using her scholarship to extend a research project on the strong wool industry.
Richard Fitzgerald from Methven, who's the chief executive of New Zealand Young Farmers, has a mixed cropping farm. He will be looking at the use of farmers' networks to develop their capabilities.
Michael Tayler from Temuka, who's running an intense arable operation and sheep and beef unit in a family partnership, will look at arable rotations and the sustainability of current practices.
