New Young Farmer club in Hamilton city

The Young Farmers Organisation is crossing the urban, rural divide - setting up new clubs in cities.

In the latest example, a young farmers club was launched in Hamilton on Thursday.

A co-founder says the clubs in rural areas of the Waikato region are too much of a trek for those with agri-business jobs in the city.

Erica van Reenen says Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are the only other cities to have young farmer clubs.

But she says the organisation is looking to set up more clubs wherever there's demand for them.

She says she teamed up with Young Farmer Contest finalist Tim van der Molen to form the Hamilton club which already has 25 members.
