The kiwifruit grower organisation will now be funded by a commodity levy, after huge support from growers.
Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated has been funded through an annual agreement between Zespri and suppliers.
Some 87% of growers voted in support of a levy.
President Peter Ombler says the vote won't change the amount raised from growers and it will now be funded through an independent levy.
He says previously it was funded through the annual supply agreement between Zespri and its suppliers, so the authority for the funding was more distant from growers than it now is.
Mr Ombler says the levy, which will apply for six years, will reinforce the organisation's status as an independent body.
