Hot and dry conditions persist

3:04 pm on 7 January 2009

Hot, dry conditions are being watched by farmers in North Canterbury, where parts of the region are very dry.

Federated Farmers president Chris Sundstrum says expected high temperatures will not help parts of the region that are already very dry.

However, he says good rain in December helped the majority of the region.

Federated Farmers Gisborne branch president Hamish Cave describes conditions in his region as "patchy". He says the situation is not grim, but it is serious.
