Ballance predicts stablising fertiliser demand

Fertiliser company Ballance Agri-Nutrients is confident that improved farmer confidence will lead to a steadier demand for fertiliser during the rest of the year.

Chief executive Larry Bilodeau says demand from the sheep and beef farmers was mixed in the first half of the year, but it improved when meat returns rose sharply.

He says a steadier demand will allow the company to more accurately forecast the tonnage of raw materials it needs to import.

Larry Bilodeau says there's a reasonably stable balance at present between the supply and demand for phosphate, urea and potash.

He says delegates at an international fertiliser association conference he recently attended in Canada were upbeat about the increasing demand for fertiliser products.
