A new online tool has been developed to take some of the guess work out of pest control.
The Decision Support System has been designed by Landcare Research primarily for council pest managers, but it is also useful for anyone needing to control pests.
It currently covers five common pests including possums, ferrets, feral cats, stoats and rats.
Landcare senior scientist Dave Morgan says pest control has become quite complex over the past 10 years and the system narrows down what option would be best, and its likely cost.
Dr Morgan calls it a one-stop shop for getting information on pest control.
