Promoters of a proposed new farmer wool co-operative believe a lack of rain in some regions is drying up support for the initiative.

The Wool Partners Co-operative says it needs to raise $65 million to start up and get farmers to commit at least half of their strong wool clip.

Wool growers have until the end of next week to subscribe.

Chairman Jeff Grant says a significant number of farmers have already signed up, but the co-op is yet to reach its target.

He says spring lamb losses, and developing drought conditions in some regions are stopping some farmers from committing to the co-op because they are worried about a drop in income.
