Locusts moving out of NSW

11:10 am on 5 December 2010

Swarms of locusts are making their way into Victoria from New South Wales. Some are reported to be up to 25km wide.

The Department of Primary Industries fears it could be the worst locust plague in 75 years.

State locust controller Russell McMurray says the swarms are expected to enter Victoria over the next few days.

The ABC reports the swarm has been travelling south-west from the Hay region and is being drawn into Victoria by the stormy weather.
