Room for growth in beef exports, says industry body

Beef + Lamb New Zealand's chief executive says there is potential to increase beef exports to Taiwan and South Korea, by increasing consumer understanding of grass-fed beef.

Scott Champion has had meetings in both countries with importers and retailers of New Zealand grass-fed beef.

He says Taiwan and Korea are two of the four biggest importers of beef from this country, but there's room for growth in Taiwan especially, by pushing the advantages of grass-fed beef over grain-fed.

Mr Champion says there's also a growing following for grass-fed beef in Japan, especially with women over the age of 50 and families with young children.

He says they regard it as safe, healthy and nutritious.
