Fonterra has set a new record for the most milk processed in a single day - with just under 77 million litres through its sites last Wednesday.
That's three million litres up on last year's peak day.
The co-operative notes that this follows a slow start to the season, with snow in the South Island and wet weather in Waikato and Taranaki.
James Houghton, from Waikato Federated Farmers dairy section, says that after a soggy start, many farmers are now in catch-up mode - getting cows up to condition and starting to build some reserves for summer.
