Farmers to get better understanding of road rules

1:50 pm on 20 October 2010

Farmers who are struggling to understand the road rules for farm machinery have a chance to gain a better understanding this week.

Federated Farmers is hosting two meetings in Canterbury for farmers to hear about the complex rules, and its move to push for changes.

The regulations apply to open-road movement of farm machines and dictate flags and signage, speeds and driving duration.

There are also regulations on vehicle dimensions and weights and covering work time and log books.

Federated Farmers' Canterbury president Neil Stott says it is important that farmers understand what they are legally obliged to do when travelling on open roads.
