Avocado crops expected to be down

The Avocado Industry Council and Growers Association says production will be down about 10% this season, reducing the crop to three million trays.

Country Life reports that growers lost a significant amount of their crop in high winds and rain in Bay of Plenty late last month.

However, overall the association says it does not expect the storms to impact on future crops.

Chairman John Schnackenberg says he's still confident the industry can achieve its goal of 12 million trays by 2015.
