New software programme for farmers

A Wairarapa farmer has released a new software programme that is designed to make farmers' lives easier.

Daniel Smith, who runs seven sheep, beef and cropping farms in Wairarapa, has developed a smartphone application called iFarmer.

It is designed to keep track of the buying and selling of stock, as well as all other stock management data.

Daniel Smith says it allows farmers to calculate their current financial position straightaway, so they can make accurate and informed decisions in the field. It integrates with their accounting package.

Mr Smith says the software has been designed for small farm businesses through to multi-block holders, as well as for stock agents.

He says iFarmer will also be useful when the national animal identification and tracing system comes into effect next year, when cattle will be required to have an electronic ear tag.

He says the application will be available for all the major smartphones, include iPhone, Android and Blackberry.
