Concern about feed shortages in Manawatu

1:06 pm on 14 September 2010

Feilding vets are warning farmers in the Manawatu-Rangitikei hill country to prepare for a feed shortage as they head into spring.

They're so concerned that a seminar has been organised at Apiti on Wednesday to advise farmers on how to counter it.

They say most of the region had reasonable growing conditions through July and August.

But in the northern hill country, stock condition and pasture covers are still the lowest they have been for many years.

Trevor Cook of Totally Vets in Feilding says stock health is suffering due to an unusually wet winter and early spring.

Wednesday's seminar at Apiti tavern at 3pm will provide advice on managing feed supplies, stock health and farm finances.
