7:25 am on 21 August 2010

The livestock market is reportedly going crazy in Gisborne where prices for lambs are described as the highest in more than 60 years.

Prime lambs sold for $141 this week, butcher's ewes for $102 and store lambs for more than $90.

Country Life reports farmers are felling optimistic and there's a shortage of stock.

Angus cattle sold for very good money at Wairoa this week too - between $1005 - $1150.
