A woman is due to appear in the Gisborne court on Friday on charges relating to the theft of stock.

Police say there has been a substantial increase in rustling this year.

In the latest incident, 65 lambs were taken from a holding paddock on the outskirts of the city.

Sergeant Greg Lexmond says the police searched a property in Gisborne and found seven lambs from the farm with their back legs tied together as well as two recently butchered carcases.

The accused is aged 19 years. Police say her partner is due to appear in court next month.
