Rainfall eases Clutha shortage

Much-needed rainfall and repairs to a water scheme have helped ease a water shortage in the Clutha district.

The water supply for the North Bruce Rural Water Scheme is running critically low.

The raw water reservoir at the North Bruce Rural Water Scheme has risen more than two metres since 20 February and is expected to be at full capacity by tomorrow.

The conserve water notice issued last month has been lifted, although usual summer restrictions still apply.

The scheme supplies 950 farms and houses north of Balclutha, from Lovells Flat to Waihola, and has suffered numerous leaks in recent weeks.

The district assets manager, Jules Witt, said the leaks had been fixed and the next step would be how to ensure a similar situation is avoided in the future.
