Task Force Green teams in Northland

7:47 am on 28 July 2014

The first Task Force Green teams will be on the job in Northland from Monday, helping farmers and orchardists with the massive clean up after this month's storm and floods.

The teams have been organised by Northland Regional Council and Work and Income.

Northland Rural Support Trust co-ordinator Julie Jonker said there would be no lack of jobs for them to do, from clearing debris off fences to cleaning out water troughs and removing fallen trees.

She said there would be three teams to begin with, two of them in the Whangarei area.

"One will start on horticulture - which was actually the avocado industry that was quite hard hit and the other will start on farms. And we've got one (team) based in Kaikohe which will do that area and further North to Kaitaia."

Ms Jonker said more teams would be set up if it was found they were needed.

The Rural Support Trust had also been building up its team with increased Government funding made available through the adverse event declaration, she said.
