The health and bee products company Comvita is increasing its honey supply.

Comvita is buying Timaru-based company New Zealand Honey, a co-operative of about 70 beekeepers who will now supply it.

Comvita chairman Neil Craig said its new suppliers would benefit from the company's investment in technology.

"We have invested very heavily in honey-testing facilities, in terms of quality and an apiary management system which will provide full traceability from an individual hive right through to the honey in the pot," he said.

"Now that's pretty advanced stuff, and we're going to offer that out to the beekeepers that actually supply to the honey co-op."
