James Davidson has won the Aorangi regional competition.
He says he was aiming to try and finish in the top four - so to win came as quite a surprise.
Mr Davidson currently works on a 1400 cow dairy farm in Darfield and will compete against six other regional winners at the national finals in Christchurch in July.
