Better systems needed to identify tainted products

An infant formula manufacturer says New Zealand needs better systems in place to identify tainted products and brands for consumers quickly.

The whey protein has been used in infant formula, sports drinks and in milk for calves.

Stephen Julian is the chief executive of Silver Fern International, which makes infant formula and an array of other dairy products under the brand name Peak New Zealand.

While none of its product is affected by the recall, Mr Julian says it was evident at supermarkets at the weekend that consumers in the infant formula aisle didn't know which products were safe.
