Two to three hundred vets are mustered in Palmerston North this week for the Veterinary Association's annual conference.
Celebrations are also underway to mark the 50th anniversary of the country's only vet school at Massey University.
The association's new president Steve Merchant said graduates of the school now working overseas are among those attending.
He said the theme of the conference is the science behind veterinary practice such as animal welfare, bio-security, epidemiology, public health, wild life diseases and traditional clinical practice.
