Efforts by the New Zealand forestry industry to make its practices more sustainable are gaining international recognition.
Forestry Minister David Carter, who's been attending a World Forestry Congress in Argentina, says New Zealand has been making steady progress in forest conservation and sustainable management.
And that's recognised in a review by the Ministry of Forestry as part of the 2008 Montreal Process report.
New Zealand is part of a 12-member working group, which includes the United States, Russia and China. The group was formed in 1994 to encourage the conservation and sustainable management of forests.
The Forest Owners Association says the industry has made good progress in areas such as reducing the amount of pesticide it uses.
Chief executive David Rhodes says it's about being able to demonstrate the industry's credentials.
He says it's not only expected that New Zealand will have good standards, but there must be continual improvements also.
