Union members at the Ministry for Primary Industries have cancelled a stop-work planned for later this week.
The two parties will return to negotiations next year.
The ministry and the Public Service Association Union have agreed to continue negotiating towards a new collective agreement with the help of an independent mediator in early 2013.
The MPI said both parties are willing to resolve the issues and that three-hour stop work meetings scheduled for this Wednesday will no longer take place.
