Dairy NZ sees benefits in new industry training organisation

The national dairy industry body says a new training organisation launched on Wednesday will have real benefits for that sector.

The agriculture and horticulture ITOs have merged to form the Primary Industry Training Organisation.

Mark Paine from Dairy NZ, which contributes more than $2 million a year to training, says the merger is a significant move.

He says it represents a major repositioning of the way industry training is working with the merger of horticulture with dairy with the meat industry.

Mr Paine says it's a chance to get the scale that industry training needs to be an active partner with the other sectors of the education and training system in New Zealand.

He says Dairy NZ will be keeping a close eye on the training organisation as it starts to establish itself to make sure the specialised requirements of each industry are not compromised.
