Milking productivity linked to happiness

A happy cow is a more productive cow.

Australian cow behaviour expert, Darold Klindworth presented his "thinking like a cow" workshop at a recent dairy farmers forum.

He says a stressed cow can take longer to milk and it can also increase a cow's susceptibility to mastitis, an infection of the udder.

Mr Klindworth says reducing stress through better stock handling can increase milk production by more than 5%.
