Beef + Lamb NZ works on meat project business case

Beef + Lamb New Zealand is hoping a project aimed at improving meat production on farms will get funding approval in time to start early next year.

The industry organisation is heading a consortium that's seeking funding from the Government's Primary Growth Partnership to implement on-farm elements of the red meat sector strategy, launched last year.

The consortium has had initial approval for its $37 million funding bid, and now has to come up with a business plan.

The project has had a boost with the decision of Silver Fern Farms meat co-operative to join the consortium.

Beef + Lamb chairman, Mike Petersen says the aim is to get the business case finished and approved by the end of the year.
