Wool marketers attend big Shanghai carpet fair

New Zealand wool marketers are tapping into the growing demand for wool in China at an international trade fair there this week.

China, which has long been New Zealand's single biggest wool market, is now taking almost half of this country's exports as shipments to Europe and Australia decline.

It has become the world's biggest textile manufacturer, in part to meet the growing domestic demand.

John Dawson, the wool exporters president and general manager of exporter Wool Services International, says that is helping to generate a high degree of interest in this week's Domotex flooring products fair in Shanghai.

He says the fair has traditionally been held once a year in Germany, but the pattern now is that the European fair is becoming less active while the new Chinese fair is becoming more active.
