One of the containers that fell off the Rena last week has been found.
Rough weather caused two containers to fall from the wreck which is still aground on the Astrolabe reef off the coast of Tauranga.
Braemar Howells says some of the timber from inside the container spilled into the sea.
Some of the spilled timber was contained but more could wash ashore at Motiti Island.
The other container, carrying aluminium chairs, sank.
Maritime New Zealand said the located container would be towed and placed on board the Sea Tow 60 crane barge.
Sensors aboard the ship have also detected some minor movement, but at this stage there is no change to the fragile status of the wreck.
