Gisborne District Council will on Wednesday start organising a clean-up of blocks of polystyrene contaminated with oil from the Rena which have washed up on the shore near East Cape.
Emergency manager Richard Steele says debris, including part of a container, has been found at various places along the coastline, from the mouth of the Awatere river to the end of East Cape.
He says a specialist oil team is coming from Tauranga.
