A police woman is in North Shore hospital after being punched repeatedly in the face by the male driver of a stolen car in Henderson, Auckland.

The stolen Subaru station wagon was pursued by police for about six minutes late on Wednesday night before it pulled to the side of the road and four occupants attempted to run away.

Police say the driver of the vehicle assaulted the officer attempting to arrest him.

Inspector Ben Offner says two of the occupants have been located. They are still looking for two others.

The Henderson-based officer is expected to be discharged from hospital on Thursday morning.

The driver of the vehicle will appear in court on Thursday on charges of aggravated assault.
