Mayor not keen on urgent spending process for Cup

1:37 pm on 25 August 2011

Auckland Mayor Len Brown is uncomfortable with a suggestion that Auckland Council should create an urgent decision making process during the Rugby World Cup.

A report by Auckland Tourism Events & Economic Development Ltd says Auckland Council should be prepared to redress any unforeseen circumstances that are considered significant and could have substantial financial impact.

It says up to $2 million should be available to be spent on unforeseen events.

But Mr Brown says there are plenty of existing ways to address any problems that arise.

The recommendation will be discussed at a later date.

Public agencies in Auckland are already spending $100 million over a three years on the event.
