Kerikeri police issue warning after night attacks

8:57 pm on 29 July 2011

Police in Kerikeri are calling for vigilance after three reported attacks on women walking alone at night.

They're seeking witnesses to a sexual attack in the small town last Saturday when a woman walking home from a local bar was grabbed from behind near Cobham Court.

Police say the offender was wearing a dark hooded top, and fled when a car went by.

They are also investigating two other complaints of sexual assault this month, both involving women walking home.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston says the incidents may be connected, and the police have stepped up their patrols in Kerikeri.

He says people going out for a few drinks should stick together or call a cab, rather than walking alone at night.
