Police in Wellington are investigating the attempted robbery of a post shop in Khandallah.
They say a man threatened staff but left empty handed.
A man working in the shop was shaken but unhurt by the lunchtime incident.
Police are appealing for witnesses but say they are confident the offender is not one of two men sought after the aggravated robbery of a dairy in nearby Johnsonville on Wednesday.
