Two teenage girls have been arrested over the robbery of a south Auckland dairy at the weekend.

A group of teenagers allegedly stole cigarettes and tried to take the till from the Redhill Superette in Papakura on Sunday night.

The dairy owner's son, Indy Purewal, told police he had a gun as a last resort to get the police to respond to their call for help.

Police say two 16-year-old girls have today been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, and will appear in the Youth Court tomorrow.

Two other girls, aged 13 and 14, have been referred to Youth Aid, and another young man is still being sought by the police.
