For a few days this week it looked like the star attraction of Wellington's Cuba Mall fountain had kicked the bucket.

In an incident many found beyond the pail, the fountain was put out of action after someone removed its largest yellow bucket, that sat amongst many others, from the mall's well-known focal point.
But whoever snatched it returned it overnight, and it will be reattached soon to the Bucket Fountain.
A Wellington City Council spokesperson said the bucket was left on the street.
The spokesperson said the bucketnappers may have given it a new paint job.
