Man tasered after multiple crashes

9:41 pm on 1 November 2015

A man has been tasered by the police in Christchurch after they say he caused several car crashes and left a trail of destruction across the city's eastern suburbs.

They said about 6.30pm today they received reports of a vehicle hitting a motorcyclist in the Dyers Road area.

Senior Constable Logan Steele said witnesses told them the man drove at people who tried to stop him and went on to have two more crashes in Redcliffs and then Sumner.

He said the driver got out of his car but was found by police officers shortly after.

"I suppose you'd call it a one-off event where a driver is that determined to get to his destination that he just doesn't care about what he hits or who he hits potentially and the drama that gets left behind him.

"Thankfully no one was badly injured and we were just sorting through the trail of destruction that was left behind."

Mr Steele said the man would appear in the Christchurch District Court.
