Upper Hutt man jailed for sexual assault

2:00 pm on 23 October 2015

An Upper Hutt man has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for sexually assaulting two young sisters.

Phillip Paul, 56, was sentenced in the High Court in Wellington this morning for indecently assaulting two girls, aged 10 and 12.

The mother of the girls told the court Paul had sexually assaulted her children while he was in their Upper Hutt home, and both of them now have trouble sleeping.

Paul has 10 historic convictions for sexual assault against children and for rape.

The Crown said there was no suggestion of remorse and Paul had denied all the recent charges, as well as the historic convictions.

Justice Brown said there was a moderate risk of him reoffending.
