A toy gun being used as a film prop caused an Armed Offenders Squad callout and the lockdown of a Tauranga school this afternoon.
The AOS was called to Tauranga Boys College about 3pm, after a member of the public told the police they had seen armed men on the school grounds.
The school's principal said the armed men turned out to two students with a black plastic imitation gun they had been using as a prop while making a film.
Robert Mangan said his students needed to accept responsibility for their behaviour and they would be writing a letter of apology to the police for the inconvenience.
