The Human Rights Commission has received ten complaints against Fletcher Construction's chief executive over his comment about Irish builders.

Graham Darlow sparked outrage when he said the company might not be able to contact the builders responsible for substandard earthquake repairs because they had either gone out of business or gone back to Ireland.

His comments were picked up by at least two Irish media outlets, with many taking to social media to complain.

Mr Darlow said he apologised if his comments were interpreted as being critical of builders of Irish descent.
