More than 20 police and search and rescue volunteers with dogs are scouring the Rimutaka Forest for a woman who has gone missing while competing in an event this morning.
The 29-year-old Johnsonville woman was taking part in the 20 kilometre Xterra Wellington Trail Running Series event, which started at 9am today.
The race was meant to finish about two and a half hours later and organisers contacted the police when the woman failed to arrive.
Acting Senior Sergeant Braydon Lenihan said the teams would continue searching as long as the weather conditions remained favourable.
