A man died last night in western Southland after losing control of his vehicle and hitting a tree.
The crash occured on State Highway 96 between Winton and Wreys Bush.
The police said the man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, died en route to Southland Hospital in Invercargill.
The Serious Crash Unit has started an investigation.
