A ram raid burglary and an early morning high-speed car chase have ended with a stolen car crashing on an Auckland motorway and another car ploughing into the abandoned vehicle.
A liquor store on the North Shore was ram raided just before 1am and the car was chased over the Harbour Bridge by police who laid spikes in Mt Wellington.
Police say they abandoned the pursuit because of high speeds and the danger to the public.
The stolen car was by then heading the wrong way down the Southern Motorway from Highbrook when it hit a concrete barrier, and its three occupants fled.
A northbound car collided with the abandoned vehicle and the driver suffered bruising.
Police are still looking for the occupants of the crashed car.
