A member of the public has been injured during a bank robbery in South Auckland.

Police said a man held up staff at the ASB on Great South Road in Papakura at about 10am today.

They said he demanded money, and after some kind of altercation ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the skirmish, a member of the public was hurt and taken to hospital for treatment for what police describe as superficial wounds.

Police said the robber dumped property and money as he fled - and officers quickly arrested a 19-year-old man nearby.

He has been charged with robbery and is due to appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow, with further charges possible.
