Emergency services are at the scene of a crash which killed one person and left others with serious injuries.
Police said the crash happened just before 10.30am, in the Greta Valley, Canterbury.
One person is dead, while four others have been flown by helicopter to Christchurch hospital with serious injuries, police said.
A sixth person received minor injuries.
Police were appealing to anyone who saw a white Hyundai rental van crash one kilometre south of the Hurunui River Bridge to come forward with information.
