String of boat thefts in Auckland

3:09 pm on 6 February 2015

Police in Auckland say boats worth up to $50,000 have been stolen in a string of thefts in Counties Manukau.

They said the thefts - which included boat trailers - have happened in Pakuranga, Flat Bush, Dannemora and Manurewa.

Inspector Bruce O'Brien said police believed boats were being targeted because their identity could be quickly changed and they were easy to sell for parts.

Mr O'Brien said in two of the recent thefts, the boats were later found stripped down to just a shell.

He said officers were working with parts re-sellers to try to identify the thieves.
