Human bones discovered in Coromandel

3:11 pm on 31 January 2015

The police are investigating the discovery of human bones found near Port Jackson on the Coromandel Peninsula.

They said a member of the public found them after they were exposed by erosion, and handed them in to an Auckland police station.

The bones were being examined, but police said the area where they were found was known for remains dating back before European settlement.

Results from the examination were expected next week.
